Learn to Conduct Research

SRI offers College of Science students the opportunity to participate in discovery-based scientific research starting on your first day on campus, with no prior research experience required. You will gain research skills that will help you in science classes, learn with College of Science peers, and connect with faculty across the University.

How to Participate

To participant, you must plan to declare a major in the College of Science or College of Mines & Earth Sciences and enroll in SCI 1500.

SRI students are expected to participate in the following:

  • Enroll in SCI 1500 - First Experience Course, a 1-credit class that will cover experiential learning opportunities in the College of science, scientific inquiry, and other topics that will help you be successful.
  • Commit to 5-10 hours of work per week in your research stream.

SRI Rotations - "I want to explore"

SCI 2715 - Spring Year 1

  • Sample Several research types
  • 3hrs/week. Approximately 20 students per cohort
  • Multiple research mentors
  • Discover what you enjoy most

SRI Research Streams - "I want to dig deeper"

SCI 2715 - Spring Year 1 & Fall Year 2

  • 5-10hrs/week of active research
  • Small focused groups (3-15 students)
  • Single project, single mentor
  • Scholarships available to support engagement

  • Meet with University Career Coaches
  • Seminars from Industry professionals
  • Professional development workshops
  • Connections to research experiences
