ABOUT U-SCIENCE EXPERIENCE
The College of Science is excited to offer a new opportunity for local high school students this summer. Join us for a week of discovery, investigation, and learning what college-level research is really like! Students in this program will have the opportunity to get into real college labs and learn about opportunities that await them at the University of Utah.
The U-Science Summer Experience will be held June 10-14, 2024 at the Crocker Science Center (1390 Presidents Circle). Admission is limited - apply today to join us!
Experiment in Labs
Students will spend the week experimenting in a variety of labs across campus. This is a hands-on week to show you how college students spend their days doing research and finding new discoveries!

PROGRAM SCHEDULE
The program will begin at 9:00 am and wrap up for the day at 3:30 pm. Lunch will be provided each day.
An overview of activities:
- Introduction to campus – tours, activities, and safety training forĀ research labs
- Biology lab – students will engage in a nationwide research project looking at antibiotics in soil samples.
- Paleontology lab – learn about the geology of Utah and study real Utah dinosaur bones
- Medical physics – learn about fluid dynamics and how physics affects all types of science
- Chemistry – synthesize aspirin and spend time in a college-level chemistry lab
NO prior knowledge of topics are required. It is recommended that students have taken a high school biology course.
At the end of the week, students will hear how they can participate in the Utah Science and Engineering Fair on campus.
TRANSPORTATION
U-Science Experience will take place at the Crocker Science Center on the University of Utah campus, and additional buildings on campus. Transportation to and from the university is not provided, but Crocker is close to several bus routes and 0.4 miles from the Stadium Trax Station.
SAFETY AND LIABILITY
Students will be required to submit a liability waiver and sign a behavioral expectation agreement before attending program. Students will participate in a safety course before entering the labs. Closed-toe shoes and shirts covering midriffs are required for safety protocols. Safety equipment, including lab goggles, gloves, and coats, will be provided.
COST
The tuition for this program is $45/week, which includes all lab equipment and lunch each day. Tuition waivers are available – please request a tuition waiver on the application form to apply.
PRIORITY ADMISSION
The priority admission deadline is Wednesday, May 1 by 5 pm. Applicants who apply by this date will receive word of their acceptance by Friday, May 10. After acceptance, students will be required to submit tuition payment, liability waiver, behavioral expectations, and a safety agreement before the start of the program.
Final application deadline is Friday, May 24.
